| Summer Session Overview | | Overview
Summer Session 2009 is scheduled to run a total of 16 days, starting
Monday June 22, 2009 through Tuesday July 14, 2009 at most Saint Paul
Secondary Schools, except those buildings undergoing construction
during the summer. Students from schools undergoing construction will
attend classes in different buildings, but administered by their home
school’s staff.
Students must attend summer session at their
home school (the last school attended in the 2008-2009 school year)
unless classes are not being offered at the home school. Sixth graders
will attend summer school at their projected junior high or middle
school. Eighth graders will attend summer school at their projected
high school if they need MCA test preparation. Eighth grade students
who have not fulfilled 80% of their requirements will attend the
OnTrack program located at Harding Senior High School. Seventh grade
students who are credit deficient or needing MCA test preparation will
remain at their Middle School. Special Education facilitators will
determine which students will attend Special Education Summer School
and those who will attend regular Summer School.
Classes at all sites will be in session six hours each day Monday– Friday. There will be no classes scheduled Friday, July 3.
Summer School Content The
educational focus of summer session entails two categories, Credit
Awarding and Basic Standards/MCA II/GRAD preparation. Students must be
eligible to attend based on one or more stipulations stated in ALC
guidelines, which are determined by state legislation. Individual
summer school sites will offer Credit Recovery classes in the areas of
Math, Reading and Elective as well as standard-based test preparation
in the areas of Mathematics, Reading and Writing. The goal of summer
session is to help students prepare for the next year of school and/or
graduation. Class time should be devoted to academics and time should
not be spent on assemblies and other activities that take away from
student class time! The Center For Professional Development has worked
hard on developing engaging curriculum for all students.
